They've lost a lot of the band members. I'd have to see their names to opine. They're still on tv though. Sometimes Mary Lou Metzger will profile those players. I didn't know Joe Feeney passed. Florida papers don't report on Welk news.
Brand new video by friends One Dan Band Duo performing Little Boat. (camera footage and directorial debut of me) . My new slogan: "NANCY KAY VOCALS, AN OUNCE OF CUTE IN EVERY SONG"
I saw Dick Dale last time in 2003 at a Senior Expo in St. Pete, FL. He was the emcee for the Governor, the Mayor, etc. I have a photo of Dick and my mom. I'll upload it sometime. At the Expo in St. Pete, Mary Lou Metzger was there too, singing and dancing like a Rockette. I saw my dad on one of the PBS broadcasts in a still photo playing his sax. That was fun.
There really isnt a ton of activity on here because most of our members subscribe to the welknotes e-mail group. But this group is slowly growing. I was able to meet Dick Dale. He was singing at the fair with Bob Ralston, oh about 12 years ago. It really was a highlight. :)
I grew up with Ricky Dale when my family lived in the San Fernando Valley. They weren't called play dates back then but we had lots of fun including birthday parties at their house. I enjoyed Pin the Tail on the Donkey which seemed to stay up whether there were birthdays or not. I saw the whole LW Orchestra at Dick Dale's house at a get together.
Favorite Lawrence Welk Show Story
Favorite story: Dick Dale rescued me from drowning once. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Dick Dale. I don't know if that can be topped. Dick saved my life.
Favorite Lawrence Welk Star
Dick Dale and all the jazz trios. I'm a jazz baby. The smoother the better.
